My Passion

I love a good puzzle.

Sometimes a lighting control need comes along that doesn’t have an obvious solution. That’s when things get interesting. I like looking at a problem from different angles, figuring out how all the pieces work together and eventually having that “aha!” moment when I find just the right piece to complete the system.

For me, there’s a lot of satisfaction in solving something that initially seems a little complicated.

My Role

My role in lighting controls is a bit of a hybrid. I’m both inside and outside, and I get to be involved in a project from take-offs all the way through start-up.

I like being part of the entire process because it gives me the opportunity to see how everything comes together and catch potential issues along the way. When a project starts up and everything works the way it should, that’s a pretty good feeling.

My Career 

My entire career has revolved around lighting in one form or another, but I didn’t start out in the electrical industry.

I began in the entertainment world as a master electrician working on theatrical and concert productions. That experience taught me how to program lighting consoles and controllers, troubleshoot quickly and, perhaps most importantly, stay calm when something doesn’t work the way it’s supposed to.

From there, I got into programming relay panels and troubleshooting lighting control systems. Those skills eventually led me to where I am today, working with lighting controls and helping customers find solutions to some pretty interesting challenges.

When I’m not being a Lighting Controls Manager

I love trying new things and would probably describe myself as a bit of a craft junkie.

Two of my favorites are throwing pottery and making jewelry. There’s something about creating something with your hands that I really enjoy.

I’m also always up for a good geocaching adventure. If there’s a chance to find a hidden treasure somewhere, I’m probably going to take it.

But some of my favorite days are the simple ones spent kayaking with my boys. Any day we can get out on the water together is a fantastic day.
